Create and edit a new mapping
This guide covers how to map and edit tax returns using generate.TAX software.
Creating a new mapping
1) Make sure you have an entity connected to your account. If not,
2) Navigate to the Entities page.
3) Click the Add return or + icon button to add a new tax return to this entity.
4) Start by choosing the country to filter the available tax returns.
- The return submission frequency determines the next and future reporting periods, with options ranging from weekly to yearly.
- The first return date is the starting point for using this return. It can be backdated, and selecting the correct date is important since the system bases calculations on this.
- The first submission deadline is when the return is due, and generate.TAX will help you track and manage these deadlines.
5) Use the Continue button to map the tax codes.
AI assistance for Mapping of Returns
AI Mapping Assistance helps reduce manual setup by automatically mapping your tax rates to the tax return. When triggered, a guided step-by-step process shows progress in real time as the system:
Reads your tax rates, Analyzes the tax return, Suggests optimal mappings and Applies the final mappings.
1. After opening an entity and selecting the correct country, select Try mapping with AI.
2. Clicking this button will automatically start the mapping process.
3. The tax rates will be populated automatically. You can mark any remaining tax rates as Out of scope, then select Save.
AI mapping speeds up initial setup by helping teams reach a usable starting point faster. All AI-generated results are always presented for your review, ensuring you remain in control while automation handles the heavy lifting through a human-in-the-loop verification step.
Edit a tax return mapping
You cannot Edit a return with a submission in progress.
Previously submitted returns will NOT be remapped once you edit the mapping.
1) In the Entities page, click on a mapped return to edit that mapping.
2) You can edit your mapping by adding/removing tax rates.
3) If there were tax rates removed from the boxes, you need to click Mark Remaining as Out of Scope so this adds any unmapped tax rates to Ignore.
4) Click Save to apply and store your changes.
Success! You have edited the tax return mapping.
