New Release: 4th May 2026
This release focuses on three main improvements.
1) AI scanning now creates an automatic link to the correct OneDrive folder
2) We have also added the UK VAT return and finalising the integration with HMRC (this is still pending approval from HMRC)
3) Introduced a new group function to help create VAT returns for companies which report as a VAT group
AI Scan - Automatic OneDrive / SharePoint Folder Link
When using AI Scan, you can now link a OneDrive folder (including SharePoint) directly to your entity within generate.TAX. By connecting a folder, any documents placed within it are automatically scanned- making it the ideal solution for syncing client folders.
This one-to-one mapping allows you or your clients to simply drop receipts and bills into the linked folder. generate.TAX will then automatically scan and add them to your transaction list for review. When setting up the connection, you can choose to scan existing documents or only process new files. This workflow offers significant time savings and optimises the resources required to handle client documentation.

This functionality is included in all plans. Linking a Google Drive folder will be included shortly once the app gets approved by Google.
UK VAT Return
generate.TAX now supports the UK VAT return which allows UK based entities (including UK VAT Groups) to complete their VAT filing workflow inside the platform. This gives teams a consistent process across jurisdictions while keeping the same review and submission experience they already use for other return types.
A practice managing multiple VAT registered clients can now set up a UK entity, map the relevant tax rates and run the VAT return in the same place they manage other entities. This reduces tool switching and makes it easier to train staff on one repeatable process.

Direct link with HMRC is currently being reviewed by HMRC and is expected to be available shortly.
Group Functionality
Our new Group Functionality is purpose-built for organisations that report VAT as a single collective unit. generate.TAX now seamlessly handles VAT Groups in addition to individual entities, allowing you to consolidate multiple businesses into one meaningful set for unified compliance.
How it works: You can now structure your workspace to match your group’s legal or internal hierarchy. By grouping entities together, managers can perform consolidated returns and manage the entire group's tax position in one place, rather than processing entities in isolation. The consolidated return can then be submitted to the authorities.

Benefits: Automated group consolidation, streamlined management of multi-entity VAT obligations and a cleaner audit trail for group-wide reporting.
This release also includes a number of small improvements and bug fixes including:
- VAT Number Checker is currently experiencing a problem and it is currently being investigated
- Fixed minor problems with the Reconciliation module
