New Release: 27th November 2025
The following new functionality will be released on the 27th November.
VAT Companion - Chrome Extension
The
Chrome extension, which is the
generate.TAX VAT Companion, has been significantly improved to include several features that help generate.TAX users with their daily tasks. You may download the free chrome extension (which works on both Chrome and Edge browsers from the
Chrome web store.
Dashboard with statistics including:
- Pending tasks
- Returns submitted this month
- A card showing the Pending Tasks by Status
- Another card focusing on Due Dates
- And another pair of cards about Returns
You can easily drill-down the returns which make up any of these statistics by clicking on an entry.
A new Notification system which keeps you up-to-date with any changes carried out on returns which you are handing as a preparer or a reviewer. And also returns with an upcoming due date.
Once enabled, browser or extension notifications will help you understand when any of these events happen:
Overdue Returns - Get notified when a VAT return is past its due date
Task Assignments - Get notified when you're assigned or removed from a VAT return
Status Changes - Get notified when the status of a VAT return changes
Due Date Reminders - Get notified before a VAT return is due - 7 days, 3 days and 1 day before
My Tasks now includes a search facility to easily find the task you need. In addition, there is a new option to add a return Due date to your calendar. You can also decide how and when these calendar invites are created. Plus, you can set up how much time you want to allocate or if you might want to CC someone when creating the event.
No more excuses about missed deadlines!
An new Activity tab where you have a history of the data you copied - including the option of pushing the data back to your clipboard - so now you can copy and paste returns in a batch. Also handy for troubleshooting a problem with copied data.
Entity Details
We are adding the option to include additional information to the entity record. This is data that a practice may require to have all VAT-related information available within generate.TAX. A number of new fields have been added - such as the contact details of the client or the addition of the internal entity code is a highly requested feature, as it allows accounting practices to enter their internal code for their clients.
We will also be using some of these new fields to populate fields in certain returns.
Search Facility
Looking for an entity or a user? We have now implemented a search facility on every screen, which helps you navigate to where you need to go much faster. We have also improved navigation by having navigational breadcrumbs.
Netherlands EC Sales List
If a Dutch VAT registered business, resident or non-resident, is selling goods or services to other VAT registered companies in Europe, then an EC Sales List (ESL) return (Opgaaf ICP) may be required. These may also be known as recapitulative statements. This new return is now available for Dutch companies on generate.TAX.
This release also includes a number of small improvements and bug fixes including:
- Better handling of QuickBooks online creation of tax rates for new Entities.
- What's New is now marked with a red dot to indicate to user that new functionality as released.
- Added the Zoho Books and Excel logos to the New Entity - these integrations are coming in Q1 2026.
- User preferences like table size or hiding of cancelled returns are now saved so when a new machine is used, any preferences will still be the same.
