Our first release of 2026 focuses on enhanced visuals and across-the-board improvements to better serve VAT compliance teams. We are also introducing more efficient workflows tailored for you, your team and the account owner.
Welcome to the New Landing Page of generate.TAX
We are excited to launch a completely redesigned home page and dashboard experience that transforms how you interact with generate.TAX. This new landing page serves as your central command center, providing at-a-glance insights into your tax returns, team performance and key metrics - all in one beautifully organized, customizable workspace.
The new dashboard is built around two distinct views that adapt to your role and responsibilities: My View and Manager View. Each view is purposefully designed to surface the most relevant information for your specific needs, whether you're managing your own workload or overseeing an entire team. The dashboard presents this information through an intuitive card-based layout, where each card displays a specific metric, chart or insight that you can interact with, customize and navigate from.
My View: Your Personal Workspace
My View is available to all users and is designed to give you a focused, personalized perspective on your own work. The objective of My View is to help you quickly understand what needs your attention, track your progress and navigate efficiently to the returns and tasks that matter most to you.
When you open My View, you'll see a dashboard that filters and displays only the returns where you're directly involved-whether you're assigned as the preparer, reviewer or client. This focused approach eliminates distractions and helps you zero in on your responsibilities. The dashboard shows you key metrics like your total open returns, returns that haven't been started yet and how many returns you've submitted this month. You'll also see visual breakdowns of your work, such as a pie chart showing the status distribution of your tasks, a calendar highlighting upcoming due dates and insights into your role distribution across different returns.
Every element on the dashboard is interactive. Click on any metric or chart segment and you'll be taken directly to the Returns page with the appropriate filters already applied, so you can dive into the details without having to set up filters manually. This seamless navigation makes it easy to move from high-level insights to detailed work, keeping your workflow smooth and efficient.
Manager View: Team-Wide Insights and Oversight
Manager View is available to users on Medium, Large and Enterprise subscription plans and it's built for those who need to oversee and manage team performance. The objective of Manager View is to provide comprehensive visibility across your entire organization, giving you the tools to monitor team workload, identify bottlenecks, track productivity and make informed decisions about resource allocation.
Unlike My View, which focuses on your individual work, Manager View shows you everything happening across your team. You'll see team-wide metrics like total team returns, returns awaiting review and overall submission statistics. The dashboard includes specialized manager-focused cards such as a Team Allocation chart that visualizes how work is distributed across team members and a Time to Submit card that tracks team productivity by showing average time from return creation to submission for each team member.
These insights help you understand not just what work exists, but how efficiently your team is handling it, where workloads might be imbalanced and which team members might need additional support. All of this information is presented in an easy-to-digest format with interactive charts and tables that let you drill down into specific details or filter to see data for particular team members or time periods.
The Manager role is assigned by the account owner to those users who are responsible for a team of entities or who manage users working on VAT.
A Fully Customizable Dashboard Experience
One of the most powerful features of the new dashboard is its complete customizability. We understand that different users have different priorities and workflows, so we've built a flexible system that lets you tailor the dashboard to match exactly how you work.
You can enter Edit Mode at any time to rearrange, resize, show or hide dashboard cards. Drag cards to new positions to prioritize the information that matters most to you or resize them to give more screen real estate to the metrics you check most frequently. If there's a card you don't need, you can hide it; if you want to add it back later, you can easily restore it from the customization menu.
What makes this even more powerful is that My View and Manager View each maintain their own independent configurations. This means you can set up your personal view one way and your manager view another way and the system will remember both.
All of your preferences-card positions, sizes and visibility-are automatically saved and will persist across sessions and devices, so your dashboard always looks exactly the way you left it.
New Returns Page
The Returns page has been completely reimagined to give you more ways to visualize and work with your tax returns. Whether you prefer a traditional list, a visual board layout or a calendar view, you now have the flexibility to choose the perspective that works best for your workflow. Combined with powerful filtering capabilities and the ability to save custom views, the Returns page is now a more powerful and personalized workspace.
Three Ways to View Your Returns
The Returns page now offers three distinct view modes, each designed for different working styles and use cases.
List View provides the traditional table-based layout that many users are familiar with. It's perfect when you need to see detailed information about multiple returns at once, sort by different columns or quickly scan through a large number of returns. The list view supports all the same filtering and customization features as the other views, making it a reliable choice for detailed analysis and bulk operations.
Board View transforms your returns into a Kanban-style board organizing returns into columns based on their status. This visual approach makes it easy to see at a glance where each return is in its workflow-from "Not Started" through various approval stages to "Submitted." Each return appears as a card that you can click to open and cards are organized into status lanes that you can customize. You can choose which statuses to display, reorder the columns to match your workflow and hide statuses you don't need to see. The board view is particularly useful for managing workflow, identifying bottlenecks and getting a visual sense of your workload distribution.
Calendar View displays your returns on a calendar grid, showing returns on their due dates. This perspective is invaluable for planning and scheduling, as it helps you see what's coming up, identify busy periods and ensure you're not missing any deadlines. The calendar view supports month, week and day views, so you can zoom in for detailed daily planning or zoom out for a broader monthly overview. You can navigate between months easily and the view highlights today's date and shows returns that are due soon, making it easy to prioritize your work.
Customizable Filters and Filter Selection
This page includes a comprehensive set of filters that let you narrow down your view to exactly the returns you need to see. You can filter by status, due date, return type, entity, provider, assigned users (preparer, reviewer or client), submission date and more. What makes this system powerful is that you can combine multiple filters to create very specific views-for example, showing only returns that are due this month, assigned to a specific team member and in a particular status.
To keep your workspace clean and focused, you can customize which filters are visible in the filter bar. Not everyone needs every filter, so you can hide the ones you don't use and keep only the filters that are relevant to your work. This customization is saved to your preferences, so your filter selection persists across sessions. If you need a filter you've hidden, you can easily add it back through the filter selection menu.
Saved Views: Your Custom Filter Presets
Anther feature of the new Returns page is the ability to create and save custom views. A saved view is essentially a named collection of filters that you can apply with a single click. This eliminates the need to manually set up the same filters over and over again, saving you time and ensuring consistency.
The system comes with two standard views built in: "My Open Returns," which shows all open returns where you're involved as preparer, reviewer or client and "Due this month," which shows all returns due in the current month. Beyond these standard views, you can create as many custom views as you need. For example, you might create a view called "Awaiting My Review" that filters to returns where you're the reviewer and the status is "Awaiting Approval," or a view called "Overdue Returns" that shows returns past their due date.
Creating a saved view is simple: set up your filters the way you want them, then click the save button and give your view a name. Once saved, your view appears in a dropdown menu at the top of the page and you can switch to it instantly. The system remembers which view you were using last and automatically loads it when you return to the Returns page, so you can pick up right where you left off.
Compare Return
When reviewing a tax return, it's often helpful to see how it compares to a previous return from the same entity. The new Compare Returns feature makes this easy by allowing you to view a previous return's values alongside your current return, with clear visual indicators showing what has changed.
How Compare Returns Works
The Compare Returns feature is available directly within the VAT report page (accessible from the Returns/Submissions page). When you're viewing a return, you'll see a "Compare Return" button that opens a modal showing all available previous returns for the same entity. The modal displays each previous return's period dates, status and submission date, making it easy to identify which return you want to compare against.
Once you select a previous return to compare, the system loads that return's data and displays it alongside your current return. For each box or field in the return form, you'll see the current value, the previous return's value displayed in a subtle gray color below it and a visual indicator showing the difference. If a value has increased, you'll see a green up arrow with the difference amount; if it has decreased, you'll see a red down arrow with the difference amount. This makes it immediately clear which values have changed and by how much.
Benefits of Compare Returns
This feature is particularly valuable for understanding trends, identifying anomalies and ensuring consistency across reporting periods. For example, if you notice that a particular box value has changed significantly from the previous period, you can quickly see the exact difference and investigate why. The comparison helps you spot potential errors, understand business changes that affected the numbers and maintain consistency in your reporting.
The Compare Returns feature is available to users on Medium, Large and Enterprise subscription plans. It works seamlessly with the existing return viewing interface-you can compare returns at any time while reviewing a return and you can clear the comparison to return to viewing just the current return. This feature enhances your ability to review and validate returns by providing the context of historical data right where you need it.
This release also includes a number of small improvements and bug fixes including:
- Customise the columns you would like to see in the Transactions Tab and Exceptions Tab of the VAT submission pages. These are also saved preferences which are bound to your account.
- Ability to convert an entity to View Only which can be used to continue accessing generated submissions without the need to continue updating data from the accounting software.
- New filters have been added to the Entities and the Returns page.
- Ability to see all submitted returns in the newly created Returns page - without the need to go in the Entity page to see a submitted return.
